Report written by Barnet runner
Last night ten tremendous GoodGymmers ran to Northway Gardens and their beds of roses to do some gardening.
Meeting at the Phoenix, we were joined by Sarah for her very first GG run - welcome! - and our London Marathon hero Selam - cheers all around!
We set off for the 2k run with Hazel kindly back marking. On arrival, Brian put teams to work: one 'edging' the flower beds, one spreading compost, one watering newly planted trees, and another tidying the edges of pathways.
There was loads to do so we got cracking. The pathways revealed some very old brickwork that runs along the edge of each - overhanging grass and soil now removed - and started to look very smart indeed.
Team Rhododendron reported a minor problem: with several flower beds to choose between and limited compost, we chose the wrong flower bed. The correct one was spotted on the way back - note Hazel's sad face in front of it above! Not to worry though - we can continue next time.
With half an hours' effort complete we tidied up and set off. As the work required quite a bit of upper body effort we focused on some running for our fitness session: fast feet on the curb then some laps nearby.
Returning to base, with a sprint finish naturally, we celebrated a job well done with stretches, high fives and biscuits. Till next week!
