Nine amazing runners joined me in Hackney on a muggy night to help out at the Hollybush Estate... which is technically in Tower Hamlets (ahem)!
This was my first time covering in Hackney for years so a massive thanks to everyone that helped out!
We had a quick into, welcomed Agata to her first run, marvelled at GoodGym's 100k good deed achievements and spoke about the social on Thursday!
It was a fairly short 2km down to Hollybush but with the conditions being so muggy it felt a lot longer. Once there we met Margaret who outlined the tasks for the evening:
The main task was the mulch which needed to be cleared after the council sold off the parking space. Ros took on the role of chief spreader and the rest of us worked on piling the mulch into wheelbarrows and sending it over to wherever Ros needed it. What seemed a manageable pile turned out to be quite a huge pile as we kept digging and realised the mulch was very compacted.
Ably assisted by Margaret too we kept on at it and had a good system ferrying the mulch to Ros at the bed.
With the pile all gone we turned our hand to the logs and used the barrows to get those over to a garden where they were going to be painted and carved.
With everything done we finally posed for a group photo in the now empty car parking spot and then headed back to base! We had a final cool down, thanks to everyone for contributing to the stretches.
A great session, making a fantastic difference for the Hollybush Estate, here's what Margaret had to say:
"Thank you so much for this evening, you guys were stars xx"
Don't forget to sign up for next week here.
Cheers, Pritesh
