It wasn't quite the 'Big British Rake Off' that we were expecting, but we didn't let that or the wet weather dampen our mood!

Our good friend Rob the Parky had an unfortunate incident with a couple of wasps nests on site which led to him being off work with stung and swollen ankles for a while and a part of the park being off limits until the wasps vacate with the incoming colder weather.

It was time for plan B (NOTE THE PUN!), we got secateurs in hand and went to town chopping anything that was less than finger thickness. Rob stayed with one team near the giant boulder to supervise and provide light and instruction.

Tom went with the headtorch crew who were on the move down the mountain bike trail hunting for anything that was overgrowing into the path of any RAD mountain bikers using this fantastic family friendly beginner trail that can be missed when covered and overgrown. If you or family have a mountain bike at home, get it out and pay the trail a visit!

Before thanking Rob and wishing him healing powers for his stings we headed off to the U-Mix centre for some fitness fun times with a quick and punch upstairs/downstairs type session with step ups or squat jumps for downstairs and press ups or clap press ups for the upstairs. Couple rounds of 30s on each and then we headed home keeping heart rates high.

It is def getting to dark season folks so please do remember those head torches and GG lights to keep us safe and seen, thanks!

Until next time Happy Running!

"Making Heeley a better place to be. We want Heeley to be a successful, vibrant and inclusive community; a good place to live, to work, to do business and to visit."

Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
