10 Goodgymmers hit the street, took on a 6.5k run and smashed the task at Rowland Hill School and Children’s Centre

Shouts out to Selam, Alisa and Roxana

We were joined by a few new faces this week. Shouts out to Selam, Alisa and Roxana. Pleasure having you guys join the squad. Convo was flowing nicely as we waited to leave. Luckily we had one or two last minute arrivals. We’d be needing all the help we could get on this task. Our mindset before leaving was that we’d 100% get the job done that evening. Although some doubt lingered.

GGH had helped to shift 17 of the 20 tons

After a pleasant multi terrain run we arrived at the task site where we would be shifting the last lot of 20 tons of sand that was used to refill the children’s sandpit. GGH had helped to shift 17 of the 20 tons over 5 sessions. We really needed to get this job done as the kids were due back as were the staff. The sand was actually being stored in the staff carpark, taking up a fair few parking spaces and as you probably know parking spaces are pretty hard to come by in London.

Time was of the essence.. could we get it done in time?

We only had 30 min once we arrived at the centre so we wasted no time in getting started. We split into two groups. With one shifting the sand from the car park to the sandpit. The other cutting open the bags and spreading the sand. About halfway through we had managed to shift all the sand that was left in the car park so the only thing that needed doing was to spread the sand and get rid of the empty sand bags. Time was of the essence.. could we get it done in time?

As the clock struck 8pm

As the clock struck 8pm we had just about managed to un-bag the sand and dispose of the empty bags. All that remained was a quick rake of the sand to even it out and we were good to go. That done we let out a healthy cheer and congratulated each other. Tony, the task owner, was chuffed, as I’m pretty sure he wondered at some point, as did I, if the job would be done in time. And then there were those precious parking spaces.

sprint finish

After a quick drink break we had a round of high fives, said our good buys and we were out of there. The run back felt good knowing we’d completed the task. As usual we stopped at the junction of Downhills Park Road and Philip Lane to re group and take up the challenge of running at max pace along the home straight. I reminded people to save a little bit of gas for the sprint finish. That done we warmed down and dispersed with din dins on our minds.

Until next week folks do good – stay fit & look out for the light
