Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Stephen Gilmer
With the ever popular Percy Pud happening on the other side of Sheffield at the same time as Graves Junior parkrun, the event team were concerned that this hugely popular event would draw a lot of their regular volunteers away for the morning. Luckily the team were aware of goodgym and contacted us in advance with their concerns, how could we do anything but step up and ensure that the juniors event could go ahead smoothly!
While the Pud offers a great 10k course that despite the hills is the home of many a GGer's 10k PB, free hats and Christmas puddings, there were life affirming hi fives a plenty on offer at the Junior parkrun. 7 of Sheffield's good-deed-ers took on roles ranging from timer to marshal to funnel manager, even surprise warm up leading, and saw this week's 73 participants safely round their 2km course.
Massive thanks to the awesome good gym team who volunteered with us this morning !
Despite the cold we got a very warm welcome from the team and were put straight to work constructing the adult proof finish funnel, and showed just how adult proof it was with our attempts to untangle the tap used between the posts. Sam and Steve then took center stage as Sam lead the warm up that is such an essential part of junior parkrun, this might make it's way to a GG Group Run soon!
The participants were then corraled towards the start and unleashed with a yell of "Go", count downs at juniors don't work apparently!
While we cheered, clapped, whooped, hollered and, yes, hi fived, everyone round the course we started to receive the pre pud team photos and were relieved to know we weren't the only one's suffering under the drizzle despite Sam's earlier weather commentary.
We welcomed the last junior across the finish line, posed for a quick photo with this week's Run Director Simon, dismantled the finish funnel for another week and headed to the cafe for a warming coffee before several headed off to our second mission of the day.
