Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
8 Camden GoodGym runners ran between 5k to help chop back overgrown ivy and weed for a community Orchard as part of Camden 'Give it a GO!' festival
Every year Camden Council stage a 'Give it a Go' festival on Hampstead Heath. It offers 'Heath go-ers' an chance to try a range of sporting and cultural 'offerings' available in the borough. Camden GoodGym had a stall and ran a Group Run as part of the event.
Thunderstorms and Heavy Showers
Despite heavy showers and some sporadic flashes of lighting 8 hardy souls made the journey up to Hampstead. We started with a short walk down to Kiln Place Community Orchard; a small area on an estate near Gospel Oak where resident Paul is growing fruit. It's a lovely space and a nice idea to get residents working together for mutual benefit.
Gold Raspberries V's Russian Ivy
He has been unable to maintain the garden over the last few months so our help was much appreciated. We weeded the beds and chopped back the creeping Russian ivy, whose growth was starting to affect the berry bushes around the garden's edge. We did manage to sample some of the fruit that was left including some pretty tasty Gold Raspberries. I didn't even know Gold one's excited...
8 Drowned Rats conquer Hilly 5k
We headed back to the Heath for a 5k run- trying to dodge the rain by taking routes through wooded areas. It was an impossible job.... but we're pretty tough. It was really fun and we managed to conquer all the hills the Heath threw at us. Lauren and Hannah's hill climbing was particularly impressive as they dragged us past Kenwood House and back to our finishing place by the track. Nice work guys!
