Powered by a rare find in the US…a cup of tea! I headed to the Pentagon car park to help clear away the abandoned clothes from the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC.

On arrival at the car park, I was given a wristband which I thought I’d need to get to the start area but it turns out runners friends and family are allowed pretty much to the start line! I was helping the marines who volunteer at the event, we filled bag after bag of clothing that runners had discarded near the start. It was a chilly morning so there was lots of clothing to collect!

The bags were then piled onto trucks and the clothing will be donated.

With military precision the task was done and I set about trying to run back to the centre of DC past sights such as the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and The Capitol to cheer on the runners running the event.

I hope they didn’t make the tea in the microwave, which is what happened quite a lot when I was there! It’s very upsetting!!
