Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Shaun Dixon
11 Runners ran to 1k to help a Community Play Project begin decorating their hall.
11 runners braved a downpour of rain to head out on their first ever GoodGym run this week (nice one!). We all met at Somers Town Community Centre and following a few dodgy warm-up exercises we made the short jog up to Plot Ten.
Community Play Project and Hub of the Community
We were met by Sally who manages the Project. She gave us a talk about the history of Plot Ten. It has provided after school, holiday and pre-school activities for children from all backgrounds for the last 40 years and is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. They are looking to decorate the main hall but cannot paint at the moment as the hall is covered in staples- we were tasked with pulling them all out!
Staple Pull
We broke into small teams and armed with scissors, staple pullers and pliers we got to work. Each team taking one wall each and tried to pull out as many staples as possible. After 40mins our fingers and thumbs started to ache but we had made loads of progress- clearing the majority of staples from the walls.
Fitness Induction
We then headed off round the block on a run-through dark Brill Park and around the community centre. We tried a few short fitness tests - looking at our general aerobic strength, balance, agility, symmetry and flexibility. We will aim to improve all of these in our GoodGym sessions- hopefully making the act of running feel that little bit easier.... We finished off with a quick stretch outside the community centre- nice one everybody!
Camden
AIC's cold weather shelter helps 16 Londoners each and every week - you'll be making sure things are ready and inviting for the evening's guests :)
