Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Two run reports for your reading pleasure!
Last night 20 Camden GoodGym members ran between 6k and 8k and helped paint a local community project.
It was an unusually cold evening thanks to hurricane Gonzalo but our numbers were strong. Our mission was to help Plot 10 Community Play Project. This is a community centre built and run by the community. They hold activity groups for children from age 5 with football pitches and an adventure playground in the back. Our mission was to top up the painting of the wooden structures in the adventure playground. The manager of the centre gave us an introduction to the centre, showed us where the paint was and after that gave us free reign.
Well we set about our task with excitement, we had all manner of brushes and coloured paints. Some of the wooden slates of the playground already had been painted but you could tell this had been quite long ago by the fading colours. We generally stuck to the exciting mixture of colours that had been set out. One structure had stripes of bright yellow and pink- making it look like a rhubarb custard or refreshers sweets. We also added a few smiley faces and refreshed a painting of a dog. When we turned away to put the paint away, wash the brushes and clean ourselves up it was great to see how much of the structure we had managed to paint and how good it looked now with bright and fresh colours.
After posing for a few pictures with a life size Sulley from Monsters, Inc. that was in the community centre- and moving the goal posts to do so (pun intended and enjoyed) we thanked the centre and were on our way for the run of the evening. We jogged to Granary square in Kings Cross and then did a few squats, sprints and raced up and down the steps there. Then we set off for variations of 4, 5 or 6k along the canal depending on ability.
After jogging back to the community centre and doing a few warm down stretches we were soon all on our way back home and ready for next week’s exciting community project and run.
Best,
Roseann
Last night was a special GoodGym night in Camden, with Shaun away we had the pleasure of getting Tom from GoodGym Tower Hamlets. A lot less hair, but that will do.
The task of the night was painting a children's playground, so after choosing a specific colour, everyone was ready to paint for 40 mins. It was really fun and some of us (not me) have serious skills at it.
After a nice warm up around Granary Square, we split in different groups on the canal for a nice run!
It was a really good night where I almost thought I was a child while painting.
