Report written by Kim
Our last group run of 2021 and I'd like to start the run report by saying thank you for all the hard work and positive difference you've all made over the past 12 months.
For our final group run of 2021 we were heading over to Hither Green Station embankment to tackle the mountain of soil that we are slowly but surely getting to the bottom of. On arrival we met the wonderful Anne-Marie, only to find that our cardboard had been stolen!! Or presumed to be fly tipped and taken away by Network Rail, fear not, us GoodGymmer's always solve a problem and there was back up cardboard, donated by a local retailer), solutions to untie the string included using a spade and force, or the more sensible option of Julian running to the shop to get some scissors.
After an interlude of eating celebrations...
Back up cardboard now accessible and we began to lay it down on the far end of the embankment and cover the odd weed that had started poking through the areas we had already covered on previous visits. We then got stuck into moving the soil to the far end, our longest journey soil moving yet. Before we knew it, we had covered the entire freshly laid cardboard area and it was time to head back to Springbank Community Gardens to drop the tools off.
We'll be back in the New Year, will we get to the bottom of the soil...who knows?
