Share the love

Kanika, Louise and Sheila gathered for spot of maintenance at the community allotment. Our first job was to remove all the tomato plants, including all the fallen leaves and fruit and dispose of them in the bins. Louise started the watering while Kanika and Sheila tackled the second bed of tomatoes, and then moved on to taking down the bean plants, leaving the roots in the soil to continue their nitrogen-fixing activity. It was dark by the time we finished, so we shall leave the hoeing and lavender plant topiary until next week, and try to make an earlier start to beat the sunset

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
