On an unusually warm spring night nine members of GoodGym Redbridge ran to Jubilee Church to help a food bank sort its produce and ran 8km in the process.

In recent weeks there have been a spate of new, exciting, tasks at GoodGym Redbridge. As a result of a two-week task for Liz at Redbridge CVS last month, the team was asked whether they could help a local food bank to sort a huge delivery of food. This sort of task is exactly up GG Redbridge’s strasse and the type of thing we love to get involved in.

Roll forward a few weeks and nine members of the group, including first timer Saghir, turned up at Wanstead House for the 4km run to Jubilee Church. Not the most exciting route but one that got the group to the church in the fastest time and warmed up and ready to work hard.

With a quick briefing from task owner, Jocelyn the squad were underway unloading the van full of tinned and dried produce and sorting it by year. 2017, 2018, 2019. You get the idea. It was a giant haul and should feed many deserving people over the months.

Despite the huge amount of work involved the team made light work of the task. The van was emptied, cans and packages sorted and everything tidied away. All within 25 minutes. The volunteers at the food bank we amazed at what can be done by a motivated group and fingers crossed GoodGym will be asked to return again to help.

Massive high fives to all those who attended the task last night. It was amazing to see everyone getting stuck in and show another organization what we can do. Special thanks also to Sarah who helped introduce the foodbank last year. You are all L-E-G-E-N-D-S.

We’re off down Wanstead High Street next week with Marion and Wanstead Community Gardeners. As always we really need your help so don’t delay, sign here now.
