Wow, what an AMAZING feeling to be back doing group runs!!
After a very long 16 months, tonight saw the return of our beloved GROUP runs! It was amazing to be back doing what we love most - fitness, alongside helping our community.
Tonight, Alex, Alison, Barry, Claire, Emily, Karen, Maurice, Nicola, Nigel, and Pam all gathered together in what can only be described as a celebration! We were all absolutely buzzing to be doing our first group run in what has felt like forever, again.
We met at the allotment at the Wishing Well where we did a little warm up (like in the old days). Four stations spread across the lawn with a different exercise at each station. On the blow of each whistle after 30 seconds, runners ran to the next station and took part in the next exercise. It had been a scorching day and was still a scorching evening so everyone did so amazingly well to keep going when it was so hot!
Once we'd done our warm up, we headed out to Broad Street for some dreaded hill reps. Members who wanted to walk took the pavement on one side of the road while members who fancied a bit of a sprint took the other. It was impressive to see the amazing efforts in spite of the heat! I think Alex and Claire must have been rocket fuelled as there was no stopping them! Well done to everyone for their amazing efforts - it wasn't easy in tonight's heat!
We returned back to the allotment where we did our stretches. Alex was such a good sport as we all (well, maybe just me) had a bit of a giggle at his expense while he was doing the stretches that involved balancing!! Sorry Alex ;)
We spent the rest of our evening at the allotment lopping trees, weeding, watering (the beans - had to mention that for the sake of the pun!), clearing out the shed, litter picking and bagging up branches. It was hot night but it didn't stop anyone from giving a hard night's graft.
And to end our evening, we had a lovely celebratory picnic in the garden. Strawberries (not from the allotment), grapes, cakes, crisps and drinks. I think they went down well (apparently rocky road bites are good for sciatica and arthritis, who'd have known! ;-))
It was a Goodgym night, so the weather was of course gorgeous - however, tonight is the one night we could actually have done with some rain!!! Lol!
