Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Hounslow runner
On a Crisp MISTY morning Goodgymmers from all across London Town descended on Forster Memorial Park. - We arrived by walking , public transport, cycling and running.
It was a somewhat poetic image with mist still hovering over the open fields in the Park.
Our task was to plant approx 200 tree saplings along the Park Perimeter running along Whitefoot Lane.
Our task was parter of a larger task taking place across the Park. There were a total of four areas with either Tree Saplings, Baby Oak Trees, or Blueberry Bush Bulbs being planted.
Alice (who had organised the Volunteer day for the park) gave us a briefing and tools allocated we set to work.
We paired up and had our planting sections divided. -Using a mixture of sight and measuring tools to lay out the saplings in a criss-cross pattern before planting.
Luckily the ground was very soft and wet to provide easing digging, and great planting conditions.
In what seemed like no time at all we had planted all the Tree Saplings and it was time to add the finish touches.
After planting in true eco recycling fashion we used the remains of last years Christmas Trees to provide protective Mulching around the Saplings we had planted.
We had some well deserved sustenance in the form of teas/coffees and chocolate biscuits.
We set off on our separate ways to enjoy the rest of the Sunny Saturday Afternoon.
