Wintry weather but without a snowflake in sight
Oh my goodness ! When we sat in the warmth and relative comfort of Splashpoint LC little did we know of the elements that were just about to be thrown at us .
However I'm getting ahead of myself ...
Wind the clock back 15 minutes and Nick and I arrived to find Emily ready and waiting closely followed by Barbara and then Dr Emmafreshly back from her amazing mission to Peru where she had a 'holiday' visiting the young man she has been sponsoring for a number of years after he had been rescued from a burning house . Our very own GG guardian angel . Words cant express just how amazing you are. Massive, HUGE, kudos to you lovely lady :)
Yet again I have digressed ! So who missed the weather update today ? Our very own Snowflake Jay clearly saw a bulletin that the rest of us didn't and tucked himself up at home Nick and I arrived in layers, waterproofs and woolly hats so we came prepared for a chilly evening but we were certainly not prepared for the weather that subsequently hit us !
Paul arrived in his shorts and thenBelinda freshly returned from Colchester where the weather was clearly more balmy than windy and wet Worthing, arrived in 'THE' must have long sleeved black GG t shirt , 3/4 length leggings , without a waterproof but with an extremely with hardcore husband ,John, adorning a red short sleeved t'shirt
Last but by no means least and together with a round of applause we were so incredibly happy to welcome back [Gill} (https://www.goodgym.org/runners/gill-cammack)
It was so good to catch up with this brave, incredible long distance runner who recently got struck down with a truly awful bout of shingles that scuppered her marathon plan ( but apparantly not for long! )
Fast forward 10 minutes....
The walkers ( Nick and John ) set off on the warm up route closely followed the runners and thats when it all changed !
Hail, sleet and rain soon hit us all . The runners sheltered under a palm tree where Emma chose the moment to unveil her GG RED TEE SHIRT which was attractively tucked into her leggings beneath several layers.
Fast forward another 10 minutes and we all arrived at Denton Gardens together with our very friendly and not so eager Keith !
Making a dent in Denton Gardens
Tonights task was to clear some beds in these community gardens. With a large amount of digging, weeding , hoeing and edging in a short amount of time the team bravely pushed on despite an icy cold wind and being soaking wet from the earlier downpour.
30 minutes later and just as we were packing up the heavens opened and down came the pouring rain again. With the team already wet and cold there was a unanimous vote to call it a day and return to base.
30 ( Dirty Burpees)
With instructions to do 30 burpees at home and slip into a nice hot bath the team instantly dispersed in different directions.
International Womens Day
This Friday 8th March its International Womens day .In celebration of this I thought it would be a nice idea for as many of us as possible to share the love and bring a female friend, family member, neighbour or similar to either volunteer, walk or run at Worthing park run. Maybe some of our tough guys would like to dress as women for the day !Just a bit of fun and no pressure at all
Hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday or next week when we will be meeting at Worthing Leisure Centre for a return to The Rowans for part 2 of our painting task. Walkers leave at 6 pm Runners at 6:15 pm
See you soon ! Happy and hopefully dry running!
