SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Poole
On the first anniversary of Goodgym Redbridge, nine of the area's finest runners ran to Wanstead Community Allotments to weed the paths and covered 4km in the process.
With the group in fine spirits and the promise of beer, prosecco and cake to celebrate the areas first birthday the team head off towards Nutter Lane and the allotments. Wanstead Community Allotments was the area's launch task and it seemed fitting to return just over one year later.
And it was a good job we did. The recent mix of warm weather and rain had transformed the paths into a jungle of weeds. Shocked by the transformation the group set about grabbing at the pesky plants that were attempting to undo all the good work that has been achieved over the past 12 months.
In usual GG style, everyone pitched in enthusiastically and before long a huge area was once again weed free and looking 100% better. The compost bin - which had previously been empty - was now full to overflowing and team Redbridge were ready to head out to the streets and log some miles.
With the local trails dry and inviting the team headed down to the River Roding to follow it West before heading back to base for a small celebration.
Huge thanks to Peter for organising cupcakes and prosecco for the party and to all those who come down and been involved at GG Redbridge over the last year. The good news is there is plenty more work to do in the borough and the plan is to be doing even more good deeds over the next 12 months.
