Tonight we ran over 5km to start the Heaver Meadow’s clear up
Tonight we ran to Heavers Meadow in Selhurst where we met Olga from Friends of Heaver’s Meadow to get a head start on the community clear up on Saturday the 18th of February. We headed there and back with potentially lethal litter picks at our sides and I’m pleased to report that there were no incidents! We donned our head torches and gloves and followed the path along the stream picking up as much litter as possible to stop it being blown into the stream as it’s dangerous to try to fish it out. There was mention of rats having been seen in the area so we did stick together just in case.
Our fitness session concentrated on agility and increasing the speed of our feet by using the litter picks as obstacles. There were some interesting variations from dressage ponies to what looked like Irish dancing - but the feet were fast!
We had three new runners today - Olivia, Rachel and Anna - it was lovely to meet you all and hope to see you again very soon. Finally some red laces were given out to Anna who brought along her friend Anna - there will be a shoe inspection next week.
Next week we will be heading to Thornton Heath Rec to help prepare some planters for the local school children to grow sunflowers – they were thwarted last year by the slugs so hopefully this year they will be beaten and the sunflowers will flourish.
Newly posted is the Lloyd Park Parkrun event on Saturday the 25th of February when Ivo, the founder of GoodGym, will be coming down to Croydon to try out our local Parkrun. You can sign up here whether you fancy running, volunteering or supporting – don’t forget to wear your red shirts and red laces if you have them.
Have a great week and hope to see you next Tuesday. It is Valentine’s Day ut what better gift to your heart than a healthy run.
