In the second community tree planting mission in as many weeks we got our hands dirty improving Sheffield's flood defences and future air quality. The tree root systems will slow down the water permeating through the soil, and so help prevent flooding.

Covering an adjacent area of the manor fields that we planted the week before (and close to the trees planted last year by GGers) we continued the hawthorn hedge for approx 50 m, hole digging, whip planting and back filling.

Leaving the fields we couldn't help but to pick up some of the litter, and swung by last year's plantings - which are coming on strong :-). Really good to see the steady progression and look forward to coming back in a few years and seeing the bigger impact year on year.

Thanks to Catherine and Jack from Sheffield City Council for organising and providing the trees, guidance and useful knowledge. Also a big shout out to Kids Plant Trees for all the work they did on the day (including providing some of the trees).
