Not to self: Don't try and litter pick when everything is frozen! Last weekend I went to clear a fly-tipping hotspot in Liverpool, one of hundreds it seems, where people have dumped sofa's, shopping trolley's, bags of rubbish and one builder has dumped loads of really heavy rubble. It was a daunting task to clear the area but thanks to James Coates of Alley's Angels having provided me with a shovel and broom and bin bags I was able to make short work of clearing this area. James is determined to improve our lives by clearing all the litter in Liverpool.
The only problem was that on the Saturday the ground was frozen, which made it slippery and difficult to collect some of the rubbish but by the Sunday things had thawed out. I had to make two trips to the tip in order to clear the area. It is so satisfying to clear somewhere like this and to know that more and more people out there are doing this. It was heavy work and I got a real workout and it was nice to see people acknowledging what was being done to clear up their community.
