Report written by Tom Mutton
21 TENACIOUS @GGSHEFF runners, ran 5.5km to get fit and do good for Heeley Development Trust, helping them with the upkeep of Heeley Peoples Park.
This week we welcomed 2 new runners to our group. Give a cheer to....
After giving a warm welcome to Em and Joe we set off from our home of the Showroom Cinema, heading out to Heeley People's Park. On arrival we met RAVISHING ROB at the Crowns nest and got a great group photo at the nest before being joined by FANTASTIC FRANK with one of the smooooothest entrances ever witnessed on an e-bike!
After a great brief about the project and the H&S aspects to be aware of we headed to the task and got stuck in taing up weeds and thistles and cutting back overgrown branches. We very quickly filled to massive sacks. With the days getting shorter, light and time were against us but with most runners tooled up with head torches there was no stopping the @GGSHEFF crew even to the point where we were looking for more areas to complete.
You need to get a bigger park. (Chris Dyer).
After a heartfelt thank you from the team at Heeley Development Park we headed back off into the darkness of the night to a slightly better lit park for some team fitness which this week included:
Once back at base our runners even had the energy left for a go at a STRAVA SECTION on Howard Street before stretching off and heading inside for news, drinks and chatter.
Don't forget to help choose Good Gym's races for 2018
Until next time, happy running :)
Heeley Development Trust (HDT) is a small, charitable development trust, founded by local volunteers, business people & residents in 1996. We have delivered youth, community, environmental and economic development projects in and around our neighbourhood for the last 20 years. We are working hard, developing a diverse range of income, social enterprises and assets, all with the aim of making Heeley a great place to live, with a real sense of place, pride and community. Our projects include; Heeley People's Park, Sum Studios (saving a Grade 2 listed Victorian School and redeveloping as managed work space – this is bringing jobs and investment into our community), The Heeley Voice - a local magazine and Recycle Bikes – a social enterprise supporting disengaged young people to gain training, confidence, work experience and jobs. If you are interested in any of our projects, would like to get involved or are willing to volunteer any of your time please do not hesitate to contact us or give us your feedback.
