Report written by Rachel Carthy
The group had been asked back to St Matthew's Church in Darley Abbey to clear some more of the memorial plaques and help remove weeds from some of the overgrown graves.
A slightly less eventful visit than the first one as the group managed to get through the park to the church and avoid the bridge closure and there wasn't a rain cloud in sight. Some of the group had travelled the 1.4mile distance from the city centre to the church and then back again at the end of the session whilst others met the group at the church.
Naomi and Paul took on the memorial slates again, uncovering them so the details and designs of them could be seen clearly once again. Ashley, Pete and Rachel removed weeds and long grass from plots within the main graveyard in preparation for weed killer to be sprayed. It was great to see what an impact just one hour at the church had made, take a look at the photos from Rachel and Naomi to see some of the graves before and after the weed clearing. The group were told with much enthusiasm how many of the congregation had commented on how good the church's gardens and graveyard were looking having been tidied up at the initial GoodGym session.
There was lots to catchup on with Ashley following the Ramathon on the weekend which some GoodGym Derby volunteers marshaled at. Take a look at the run report here.
There will soon be a Saturday session at the church so keep an eye out and sign up to help out GoodGym with some more garden maintenance.
