Report written by Helen Conner (she/her)
Saturdays are for....vaccination centre volunteering! A strange time in which we live.
7 awesome Goodgymers meet at the Bath pavillion for their shift helping the medical team.
We marshalled the doors, we ushered people to their waiting spots, we took temperatures and we read scripts to ask vital questions. What we hadn't expected was to be serenaded at the front door.
Mary and Helen were confronted with a Liverpudlian singer with a guitar. He sat on the concrete floor in front of the building and began to sing whilst being recorded by his friend. We smiled in the background which you could only tell if you looked closely at our eyes because we were obviously covering our faces with 2021 fashion wear aka medical mask. He then started to talk about how the Beetles played at the pavillion and then tried to get some interaction with us. So we waved and danced :) Funnily he wasn't visiting for his vaccine, he was just on tour in Bath!
The rest of the shift was filled with visitors who were called forward for a vaccine. The Goodgym team did a great job in making everyone feel welcome and hopefully less nervous with talks of how friendly all the staff are.
Well done to everyone who helped and for Alison who stepped forward to volunteer the shift last minute.
The task owner is very grateful for your help and here is what they had to say; "Just a courtesy email to thank you/ the team for the time you gave last week at the Pavilion to aid the vaccination programme. Your continued support is instrumental in delivering a safe and efficient service and your time and help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
BEMS is the local GP federation linking together all the General Practices across B&NES. It is a not-for-profit organisation and every practice in the area is a member of BEMS. We are based in Bath and work to support practices and their staff to look after their patients.
