What a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Previously we've sorted long life food at local foodbanks and we've also helped to rescue surplus fresh food at City Harvest but today we got to see the final piece of the puzzle and helped cook and serve food by supporting FoodCycle with their super Sunday lunch at Old Oak Community Centre!

They describe it as food, fun and friendship each Sunday where you can join your community for a 3-course, vegetarian feast. It’s free, local and delicious plus it’s made from food that would otherwise have gone to waste.

What’s not to love?!

We split into teams, each taking on a course and the vibe was very much ready, steady, cook! After collecting the ingredients from a nearby container it was up to each team to decide what to cook based on what had been donated. Time to get our thinking caps on! In the end we ended up with a wonderful three course meal fit for a king, definitely not the bin! We had a lovely avocado salad to start, pesto pasta with roasted vegetables and wilted chard for the main and then to finish it all off, a colourful pud with tons of fresh fruit and an amazing fig cake.

Fit for a king, not for a bin!

It was fantastic to be able to support the community with a free delicious and nutritious meal AND save over 100kg of food from landfill.
