Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
2 GoodGymers from Ealing ran up to Wembley to help Mr and Mrs G tidy up their garden. While Mr and Mrs G's son helps when he can, today they needed some serious kicking and chopping power.
When Kash and I arrived, we were given a fancy modern lawn mower and strimmer, followed by some heirloom tools that had been passed down the family line and were probably older than our combined ages. We chose the best of what was there and got to work.
We were tasked with mowing the grass and cutting back ivy that was growing over their fences. If we needed help, we could go into the house as long as we didn't let the neighbour's ninja cat in to make Mr G more unwell.
Kash got to work on the grass, strimming the overgrown parts before perfecting the finish with the lawnmower which kept getting clogged due to the inexplicably wet grass. In parallel, I fought with the ivy, ripping it off the fence panels and clearing it off the path to provide a clear route from the house into the garden.
We asked if there was a green bin and were told that the council hadn't been able to provide one yet. Instead, the couple had been adding their garden waste to a big pile at the far end of the garden. I don't know if we should be proud of this or not, but we doubled the size of the pile that shouldn't be there.
We wrapped up the task and showed Mrs G the improvements we'd made to the garden. She was so pleased in the progress we made that she asked us to come back and help again in the future.
