Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

It was a gorgeous, sunny morning in Highgate Woods, where 5 GoodGymmers met up to help the ranger dismantle the dens built by the local families. It was lovely to meet Jo, who is from GG Hackney and had never done this task before. :) At the end of the mission, she agreed it is a very therapeutic and enjoyable one, so hopefully, we will see Jo again soon!

We were greeted by our host Cindy, who showed us around and told us a bit more about the local flora and fauna. She showed several types of mushrooms (pictures attached). Cindy also told us the Woods are inhabited by:

  • one very common type of bats (apologies - I don't remember the name);
  • a very small type of deer called Muntjac, which is often confused for a hare.
  • squirrels that apparently have been purposefully introduced to London parks and, thus, are not native to this area.
  • The park is also very popular amongst dog-owners and we were very lucky to be accompanied by the new GG Barnet member Flo. (:

After taking several dens down, we said our goodbyes and wished each other a lovely end of the day. 😊
