Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Girija Tase
The mission email came in this morning saying Ms M had run out of food! I had the evening free so I signed up right away.
I rode to her house after work. With my mask on and hands sanitised I was ready, so I knocked on the door. She was armed with a list and some cash. I read through the list just to make sure, and had to clarify a few things (e.g. cakes meant cream cakes). I thought it looked straightforward otherwise...
I was wrong. I got to the shop and realised most of the list was meat - as a life long vegetarian I had no idea where to look! "big ham (honey comb)", "4 cans of chicken in white", "4 cans beef", you get the gist! I looked and I looked and I looked but in vain. Finally I gave up and asked a shop assistant. She knew just what Ms M meant by it all.
'Chicken in whites is a can of chicken in white sauce.' Ahaaa. 'Look, it says "and onions" below "4 cans beef", she wants 4 cans of beef and onions.' 'It is a real thing' she said in response to my quizzical look. 'Honey comb ham is gammon' she said. I was really out of my depth. I thought she'd solved it all but I got to the aisle and there was smoked gammon and un smoked gammon... 🍗🍖🥓🥩
I just had to make some very uninformed decisions. I got what I could within the cash she had given me and brought it back to hers. I really hope I made all the right choices with the meat! 🥩

Wow what a challenge Girija - I don't think many of us would have understood that list!
