Today David, David, Rich and I headed out in the snow to help M and D in their self-made nature area. In the 60’s they decided to convert an area that was used for dumping rubbish into a hot spot for local wildlife (what heroes!). The area has been looked after by the couple ever since and they were after some help clearing ivy that was climbing up some of their much loved trees.

On arrival, we were given lots of tools and we quickly got to work with the help of D. David 1 and I spent most of the time raking up ivy from the ground whilst David 2 and Rich set to work on the trees (which involved some v.impressive climbing) before we all came together to hack brambles! The area looked so much clearer after we were finished and the smell of wild garlic filled the air as we had unearthed plants and shoots that had become trapped underneath the serious web of ivy. M and D said the area is full of bluebells come spring and the sunlight will now be able to reach them.

The morning flew by thanks to M and D’s stories, Alfie the dog, a much needed half time cup of tea and good company. We all had a ball and hope we can go back to help again some time very soon!
