Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
On a dry, not too cold, January afternoon, GoodGym runners, Mat, Tim and Pauline, met at Rice Lane City Farm, in Walton.
The farmyard was a hive of activity, as students studying animal husbandry busied themselves feeding the animals and cleaning out their enclosures.
Our task was to tidy up the main entrance to the grounds, which was covered in autumn leaves, and clear litter from along the boundary fence, and nature trail.
As the farm’s land runs alongside a busy main road, lots of food and drink containers are thrown over the wall.
Glass and plastic bottles, polystyrene food trays, plastic bags, cans, sweet wrappers and crisp packets land among the flora and fauna of this beautiful 24 acres of woodland, fields, gardens, and historic cemetery: Walton Cemetery Park.
Open every day from 10am to 3:30pm, members of the public are met with a warm welcome. All are encouraged to visit and say Hi to the animals and, hopefully, support the work of the farm.
