Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ben Foster
It was a busy morning in Bramhall Park this morning!
It was the 700th Bramhall Park parkrun so despite the lurking clouds and the bus strike, there was a bumper crop of runners and volunteers coming out for this very special occasion. Bramhall Park parkrun was the 1st in the northwest and 6th worldwide apparently so it is no mean feat! Ben ran around the footpath/trail combo parkrun coming 24th overall before taking a deep breath for the next task.
Meeting outside Bramall Hall (apparently the 'h' is not in the name of the hall but is in the name of the area, park and parkrun...), Friends of Bramall Hall & Park gather every Wednesday and Saturday for a couple of hours of weeding, compost bin building, and general maintenance of the garden areas in proximity to the Hall. The impressive green shirts and fleeces were combined with an array of sturdy wellies and walking boots, so I felt a little under dressed in trail running shoes and Goodgym t-shirt. The main task I was involved with was moving leaves and compost to combine them into fewer compost bins to free-up empty ones for the coming autumn crop of loose leaves. It was hard work but we managed to complete the task (with Nick) before helping in some other areas. Other tasks involved weeding the borders and "baslam bashing". The session is always finished with a tea, coffee, or other beverage at the cafe next to the Hall so I joined for a hot coffee before the cycle home.
The group were really welcoming and happy to see some extra help so would certainly enjoy a return visit!
