Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
William Dowsett writes:Monday’s Bethnal green run met as usual at the Arch gallery as they were preparing for a new jewellery exhibition. Working around their plinth construction we had our briefing and 60 second warm up.Heading out west to Dalston, 27 good gym runners weaved through the dark streets past Limehouse Canal, through London Fields arriving at Rhodes Estate in Dalston. In the small car park we were met by a group of volunteers and introduced to 15 tons of top soil. Donated by the Old Vic after being used for a production it had been dropped off in builders bags.Shovels, wheel barrows, a flat bed trolley and spare bags had been laid out for us ready to start. After a short introduction we all set to work loading up. We were shown through the estate where a garden had been made on a plot of spare land. This garden was now in its second year and had a new large raised bed. Running to-and-fro we moved most of the soil into the raised bed leaving only a small amount for another run.All runners and volunteers re-assembled at the estate's lock-up where we returned the tools. The whole good gym team assembled for a group photo. A head count to confirm we had all made it back and we were on our way running again. With the background noise of cheery conversation we made our way back to the Arch gallery, re-united with clean cloths and set about the second part of our evenings plans. The Sebright arms hosted my first ever Good Gym drinks which was (as expected) well attended. Local ales and food from their residence kitchen was enjoyed by all.Another hard evening running, working (and socialising) as ever thoroughly enjoyed.
