We should have been on Richmond’s Monday night Group Run but Covid-19 Lock-down and social distancing meant that Nat, Cathy and Anita found new ways to keep fit and do good.

Anita is volunteering with City Harvest on a Monday evening and combined a 7.8km cycle ride from Richmond to Acton with a warehouse stint at 22 Acton Park Industrial Estate. Tonight’s shift involved some crating of bread and vegetables for redistribution but mainly a long session emptying about three dozen industrial sized tubs of full fat Greek Yoghurt that was well passed it’s ‘use by’ date. 'Best before' dates are advisory but 'use by' dates have to be respected. It was oddly satisfying, like combining a ‘weights’ session with playing in a sandpit. And great to know that all this white gloop is not going to waste but will be collected and turned into bio-fuel.

Nat and Cathy opted for the Lock-down ‘Warehouse Workout at Home’, combining a 27 minute fitness training session with a ‘Home Warehouse Challenge’. Nat completed her ‘Warehouse Workout at Home’ with circuits of squats, mountain climbers, plank, shoulder taps, running on spot, burpees and then tripped the light fantastic by shimmying around her kitchen whilst cooking dinner. Cathy participated with a home yoga (yogawithadriene.com) practice and watched some of the dance videos posted on the sign-up: ‘I was motivating just thinking that there were other GGers doing a workout at the same time’.

Tonight’s challenge involved throwing some moves and practicing dance routines for the Post-Covid party, with options including Whigfield-Saturday Night, Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Oops inside you head (the boat song) by The Gap Band, YMCA, Gangham Style by Psi, Macarna by Los del Rio , The Twist by Chubby Checker, Saturday Night Fever by Bee Gees and Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.

Join Monday Night Warehouse Workouts by signing up for the Training Sessions on a Monday. Next week’s challenge involves a 27 minute workout and a little bit of yoga and on 4 May we will be giving our feet a bit of TLC.

. . . . . . . . And don’t forget to practice your dance moves so we can do a mass GG Blinding Lights challenge when the Monda night Richmond Group runs returns.

The #BlindingLightsChallenge step-by-step Step one: Run into position - quick! Step two: Bounce on your right foot while tapping your left foot in and out Step two: Keep the motion going and then Dab with your hands while continuing to tap your left foot out. Step three: Next, you're going to lift your hands together at the same time and perform a circle motion around your body. Step four: Still bouncing, you’re now going to perform two rounds of in-the-air breaststroke with your hands while continuing to bounce with your feet. Step five: After that, go backwards while hiding your face with your hands.
