Alongside other amazing volunteers, myself, Shan and Mike were all on the line up for this Saturday's Foodbank shift.

Shan took up a role on the extras table, which is all the extra bits and bobs that get donated and don't really fall into the normal categories to pack for clients. Here Shan used his best sales technique to encourage people to take home extra items which are sometimes quite niche (this week there was something called wife cake and some men's hair dye). This week the extras table featured some catering sized tins of baked beans too!

Mike was assigned the picking role where you make your way around the space packing bags based on the number of people we're supplying food for and I was on weighing duty as everything that enters and leaves is weighed to ensure the Foodbank are matching donations with the level of need.

It was a busy morning with a constant flow of people coming through and by the end we'd distributed nearly 700kg of food!

Helping local people in crisis

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
