My day off on Thursday involved a good old gardening mission for Mrs B. I cycled to Ealing, and met Mrs B, her husband Mr G and their granddaughter A.

The mission listing stated I would be clearing leaves off of steps… I made the assumption it would perhaps be leaves of the fallen kind. Alas, the garden patio and steps had been completed taken over by big thick weedy greens.

It certainly looked like a challenge for a solo GoodGymmer like myself; ‘one small step for man, one giant leaf for mankind’. I stepped up to the challenge, and with gusto pulled on my gloves and grabbed a fork.

In just under an hour and a half, with a little help from Mr G and A, the patio was almost cleared, the cracks in the pavements weeded out and a start had been made on the beds. A was super helpful and lent a hand (on Grandad’s instructions) to bag up the weeds.

It started to rain, and Mr G insisted we stopped there. I tried my hardest to battle against him to at least let me sweep up and finish bagging the weeds I had pulled out, but he was very insistent I should leave and get back home. Thus, I cycled home in the west London waters, glad I could make a difference once again.
