Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
A well known expression, and one that, sadly, is all too evident in our dog-eat-dog world. Fortunately, there is GoodGym, and many other organisations who have come together, more than ever, to help those most in need.
A little help can go a long way, and thankfully GG is there to provide a helping hand, when other volunteer services are stretched to breaking point.
Today, I had the privilege of meeting, and helping, Ms G.
A former nurse, Ms G is now alone, and living with several life limiting conditions. Having suffered for two years, without seeking medical help, she is now undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, has undergone surgery, and for twelve months has been dealing with the day to day issues of having a colostomy.
Often ill from her treatment, Ms G struggles to eat, and can pass out for long periods. Agoraphobic, and battling alcohol dependency, Ms G fought her demons alone, until she could no longer manage. Embarrassed to ask for help, she finally felt that she had no choice. It has taken a lot of courage for her to allow someone into her life, to visit her home, and to bring items essential to her recovery.
Ms G relies on her faith to get her through each day...and a little help from those of us who know...not everyone is alright.
