Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)
😎20 excellent GoodGymmers met on a (slightly less chilly than expected) Monday evening. As one (possibly unreliable) Internet source has told me that the 2nd February was Groundhog Day, we discussed the day of our life that we'd most like to repeat. Birthdays featured highly, and apparently last Saturday was pretty great for some people too! With that important task done, we warmed up for the main event 🎉
🖥️We had two tasks tonight, with a small group led by Mitch heading to Tadcaster Road to deliver leaflets for the [Community Furniture Store] (https://communityfurniturestore.co.uk/york-store/) for their IT equipment collection for people who need them. (If anyone has anything they're able to donate, that would be great.) Here’s what Mitch had to say about it:
💺6 GoodGymmers went on a longer run to deliver leaflets for York Community Furniture Store. There was a tight and well-coordinated plan in place where we split off different streets around Dringhouses. Unfortunately, I may have been too ambitious with how much we could get done, and essentially delivered 1/4 of the leaflets! There was also a time where Katie and I were trapped in the estate and could not get out. We luckily managed to get back just in time for the fitness session but will definitely need to go back and get these leaflets delivered 📜
🌳The rest of us headed to Rowntree Park where we were met by Christine. We gathered the appropriate tools and split into two groups. Team Bramble did a sterling job, cutting back many, many prickly branches. It's a large area and the brambles appear to have got a tad out of hand over covid so a brilliant team effort made a great contribution to this tricky job 🌵
🍂Meanwhile, Team Wheelbarrow were continuing to shovel and barrow the remainder of the "green waste pile" (which looked distinctly brown by the time the bottom was reached...) With the tree-aging of sticks vs mud happening at the start this time, the team got into an efficient rhythm and before we knew it, the pile was a mere bump, which smoothed out to be nothing at all 🌱
💪After gathering our tools together, it was time to head back to base, which we did with aplomb. Our fitness tonight was to run on the spot with our eyes closed and estimate we thought a minute had passed. Mitch and Ed were closest but everyone did a great job. After a few rounds of rock, paper, scissors, it was time to stretch and part ways.
🙌Thank you everyone. Don't forget, there are a few sessions that need you this week: - Tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10:30am – Building a new footpath at Boston Spa 👣 - Wednesday at 7pm - HIIT fitness session with Michal via Zoom 💻 - Thursday at 6:30pm - Litter picking and tidying a planter at Foxwood. It would be great to get a few more pairs of hands at this one 🦊 - Saturday at 8:30am - Heslington parkrun takeover. We really need some more people for this one to go ahead so if you’re able to join, please sign up by the end of tomorrow (Tuesday), so we can let them know with plenty of notice if we need to cancel 🏁 - Saturday at 2pm Clearing a garden to enable a vulnerable family to move in in Copmanthorpe. We really need at least 3 more people for this one so do please sign up if you can join ⚠️

I'd like to take credit for Mitch and Ed's challenge success (due to their lockdown task master training 😂).
