It's definitely not just the biscuits that keep us returning to Nunsmoor Park, although that does help.. we just love helping out at The Bike Garden! Our group run took us back to one of our favourite hidden gems this evening for weeding, wheelbarrowing, snipping and avoiding butterflies more on that later
I have to start by mentioning Carol Anne who is one of our most prolific GoodGymers, completing her 20th Good Deed this evening, and also to the brilliant Peter who arranged for a big donation of garden tools to be delivered to Nunsmoor Park tonight. You are both exactly what GoodGym is all about and we salute you!
Two new runners tonight were welcomed along and got stuck into a balance game to warm up which Ben said was just like Twister with no mats! Tom showed off some weird frog poses while Lauren displayed a few ballerina stances that made everyone jealous. I always wonder what the folks staying at Hotel Indigo think when they look out of their windows at 6:15pm on a Monday.
A warm and sticky run up to Nunsmoor Park followed, with Amy happily looking after the back of the pack. As we were only at the Bike Garden a few weeks ago, we were quickly stuck into the task to weed and tidy the wheelchair accessible space which is a superb little area available for hire. Check out The Bike Garden website here Maggie provided the tunes, Una provided the biscuits and everyone provided the banter. We got into a weird discussion about animals sensing fear (cats love me for this very reason) and learned that Carol Anne is scared of butterflies, which they can apparently sense. It's volunteering, running AND a science lesson. A sharp speed session around the park followed, with everyone absolutely flying around their 10 second reps and showing off some very healthy competition!
Next week's run is a little further so please be on time as we will be keeping strictly to schedule to help out with Sustrans. Sign up here
Have a great week everyone and watch out for butterflies! Happy running Anji x
The Bike Garden is a vibrant community space developed on the site of a previous bowling green in Nuns Moor Park, which now serves the community as a place to join in on regular food growing activities, place to hire for private and public events, that may be regular or one-offs, and much more
