Hilary's birthday, Justin's 50th good deed and an awesome social in the adventure playground made for an absolutely belting midweek session.
Joined by first time GoodGymer, Rob, a low octane yet fun first sesh to get his teeth into. I rambled for a bit, we did an off the cuff Random Weekly Question "What's your favourite sandwich?" Haggis and grilled cheese, BMT from Subway, peanut butter and marmite, crisps and salad cream, brie and cranberry, a spam sanwdich, something with avocado and sun dried tomatoes, cheese and pickle, cheese and chutney and a Cuban sandwich. I listened to a podcast a few months back about the british sandwich industry, I was on a five and a half hour trip, time was there to kill. Apparently we are world leaders in the sandwich business, a four billion pound industry. We even send consultants over to Russia to offer our on-the-go bread and filling expertise. So there you have it...
The task at Hackney Adventure Playground was to dig a large hole, to then wood chip over, providing a soft landing for boisterous children falling off a climbing frame. You were potentially part of a process yesterday that saved a child's life - oh yes. Dan pick axed and dug like a time challenged gangster on burial duties. Quite a sight, great energy from the big man. After 45mins of fairly vigorous digging and shovelling we retired to the pizza oven area. Where we drank home made sangria and created a huge batch of delicious mini pizzas. Neville, one of the managers there, really went all out to show his appreciation of all your work there. The kids even had a hand in it, making the pizza dough in the afternoon. Don't know about you guys, but I felt quite touched by the gesture. It really was a terrific evening with lovely company plus alfresco food and booze - hard to beat in my books.
Next week we head to Manorfield Primary School - a longer run awaits and some plenty of small tasks led by the indefatigable Headteacher, Paul. Sign up here
See you beauts then
