Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Becky (She/her)
Well, not quite...! But despite the worst ravages of Storm Aiden and the somewhat gloomy week overall, 7 willing and able goodgymmers (tagged 'angels' by our host) turned out with energy and smiles to pick up our spades and put our Sunday afternoon to good use!
Met by our lovely new task owner, Tish, we were pointed to a series of buckets of bulbs, all ready for us at beautifully socially distanced intervals along the flower-bed-to-be, and were furnished with spades, trowels and her vision of two colourful flowerbeds to brighten up the estate. The bulbs had been chosen to bloom right the way from Jan and into the summer and I for one am looking forward to passing through in 2021 to see the results of our handiwork!
The afternoon turned out to be a great upper body workout as we dug out chunks of turf in some unforgiving patches of grass (special mention must go to Ceiling for her relentless determination not to let any patch of earth defeat her!) to give the bulbs nice warm homes in the soil over the winter months. Hopefully the many hundreds of worms we uncovered in the process found their way back to where they came from once we'd replaced the soil and turf!
Kudos to both Sarah and Rebecca for bringing and sharing all their bulb planting expertise and experience,Jo for her unending enthusiasm and energy, and huge thanks to legends Ceiling and John for coming STRAIGHT through from our lunchtime task at Parkview!
Hopefully we'll get invited back for more!
