Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie Griffin
Putting on my GG top is what I imagine Clark Kent must feel like when he puts on his superman outfit. Saving the world one small shopping trip at a time.
Today I went to help Ms V with her shopping. I met her at her house where she had a £20 note and a very (!) specific list ready for me. I was a little nervous as her list was so specific, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get exactly what she wanted. However, I needn’t have worried. The nearby M&S (her shop of choice) was very well stocked and I managed to find everything on the list! (After a quick phone call to my mum to ask if corned beef is the same as minced beef – turns out it isn’t, who knew!?) I then delivered the items back to Ms V along with her change and a little letter I had written her to help brighten her day.
Being able to help people in this way really means a lot to me, seeing how grateful people are and how much it means to them makes it more than worth it. I have recently started as a GG operations volunteer, helping to list, process and confirm missions. Being involved in every part of the process and seeing missions happen from the first referral to completion is truly amazing. The work that everyone at GG is doing is hugely inspirational and a massive beacon of hope for many in such uncertain times. It’s a privilege to be a part of it.
