Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Tom Hill
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, two goodgymers spent a couple of hours sprucing up a garden in Rotherhithe. What we lacked in gardening knowledge, we made up for in enthusiasm!
It was clear early on that the owners took a lot of pride in their garden and spent a lot of time there. The flowerbeds looked great but there were quite a lot of weeds, ivy and dead flowers that needed tidying up.
After discussing what needed to be done with the owners, Mridula and I started off at opposite sides of the garden, pulling up weeds and removing the ivy from the fence. Once this had been done, we began to focus on individual areas including trimming and tying up a lavender bush and cutting back several rose bushes. Mridula also spent some time in the front garden weeding and adding some weed-killer.
We were able to fill up a garden waste bin to the brim and learnt lots about the different flowers, plants, weeds and gardening methods - I would like to think we now know the difference between a plant and a weed!
