Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
It had been a while since the last visit from GoodGym, said Ms A a few times to Sevan. Someone else had already mowed her lawn, so there were just a few plants to prune. Removing a persistent weed was a priority, dead heading a rose bush and a light trim for the ivy growing on the fence. Wow! That was a lot of ivy 😲
Sevan was given the keys to the tool cabinet, where he found a pair of shears and secateurs, plus a butter knife in front of him. Not perfect, but they'd do the job.
First up, there was new growth on a tree/weed growing on top of Ms A's wall. A thick trunk had been pruned in the past, which wasn't stopping nature from continuing to grow. There were no loppers, so Sevan cut with the secateurs and twisted, stunting its growth for a while.
Next, dead heading the rose bush was easy enough, then onto the ivy. Ms A looked at it and said
"Till Birnam wood remove to Dunisnane"
Sevan looked blank. It sounded familiar. Ms A explained that it was from Macbeth when Macduff, coming to kill Macbeth disguises himself and his supporters with foliage as they approach the castle. That's how Ms A felt about the ivy, that it was growing out from the fence and closer to her. Well, they couldn't have that. Sevan went further than asked, not giving the ivy a quick trim, instead ripping as much as he could reach off the high fence to show the old panels behind. Panels that Ms A was previously happy to cover with ivy, until it got out of control.
All done with 10 minutes to go. Ah, but Ms A had a hydrangea in the front garden that needed a trim too. Well, Sevan had some free time after the mission, so he took the time to complete that too, taking the body/black bag count to 4.
