Report written by JULIA GLEESON
On a glorious evening the first strimming team received a warm welcome from our hosts Sue and Peter. Working with this lovely couple at the cemetery is always a favourite task for us and tonight it didn't disappoint.
Ros,Gill. John,Jay, Sue and myself set about raking, wheelbarrowing and stacking the grass into bags ready to compost. It resembled more like hay making as it had quickly turned to straw since it had been strimmed by Peter last Wednesday.
With lots of happy chatter and banter we got stuck into our allocated tasks with energy. I paused to admire a brightly coloured caterpillar that will soon be transforming into a beautiful black and red cinnabar moth.
Every picture tells a story
Oh yes it does John and Peter :) Peter was having a well earned rest after moving a tombstone but I'm not sure what excuse John had!
1 hour flew by and soon we were aware that the next team were ready and raring to take the virtual baton into the next hour. Can you hear that song playing in your head.... knock knock knocking on heavens door ?!
Happy Birthday Natacha & Barbara - Congratulations on your special day
On a day when, in ordinary circumstances we would be having a huge celebration for Barbara's 65th and Natacha's Birthday, we instead, gathered at the task changeover to give Barbara our warmest wishes and congratulations ( Steve had Natacha on lockdown so we couldn't give our best wishes in person to her) Mr and Mrs R had designed an amazing t shirt to mark Barbara's milestone which had a label attached saying 'Almost an angel ' Take a close look at the photos:)
Barbara had kindly provided cake and guess who was first to help himself ? After 14 weeks of no task cake our very own Superhero Cakeman made an appearance to mark Barbara's special day ( and eat all the cake! )
Thanks everyone :)
