A 19 strong GoodGym York crew completed TWO tasks at Fenby Field.
We welcomed one brand new runner to the team this evening, everyone give Pauline a cheer! She was brought along by Paul who also claimed his red laces, nice one. Our warm-up theme this week was 'disco'.. vaguely. If you're at a really strange disco.
Louise and Nick led from the front this evening with Paul as our back marker. It was Louise's last run with us as an unmarried woman - we hope you have a fab wedding in Malta Louise!! A nice 3km run across Millennium Bridge and through the allotments led us into Fulford, to the lovely and freshly mowed Fenby Field.
Originally we had planned to do a huge bramble clearing task but with ground-nesting birds hanging out in the brambles, we had to go for Plan B. Fenby's own tree surgeon and gardening extraordinaire, Don, challenged us to clear an area of greenery he had mown especially for us, then dig it two or three inches deep and rake it over to make it ready for wildflower planting.
Most of the team grabbed spades to begin the turfing whilst a brave group of six risked life and limb on a slightly smaller scale (but not that small) bramble clearance task on the other side of the field.
At the 5 minute countdown it was all down to Sean with the rake on the wildflower side, the team did an excellent job of cheering him on. Leanne loaded all the tools back into the truck and we celebrated by doing walking lunges across to the other side of the field to cheer on the bramble team. Chloe had done an excellent job of using a pair of shears as a rake and Bev had rescued Alaya from bramble entrapment. It was all good.
A tough fitness session commenced! Several goal post sprints were included as well as:
- press ups
- jumping squats
- mountain climbers
- burpees
- high knees
- heel kicks
- skipping
Suffice to say the crew were well warmed up again for the run back to base. It was an excellent running effort by everyone and we were very grateful to the Premier Inn for their generous donation of water to help us re-hydrate!
We also tried a new pub tonight for our post-run social. Brigantes was a much better option with good, friendly bar staff so this shall be our new drinking venue of choice!
