SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Liv Parker-Scott
A couple of weeks ago I attended the West London University volunteers fair where I met lots of other wonderful charities one of which was The Rainbow Trust. We spoke about lots of ways we'd be able to work together including Christmas wrapping in December (yay!) but they also mentioned they had some events coming up and really needed some more people signed up so they can raise as much as possible to keep providing their fantastic service to families with terminally ill children. Of course I said we'd be delighted to help when they asked if we could flyer for them!
Now I know that flyering isn't everyones favourite thing to do but this really does make a huge difference to charities as it helps to promote the events and encourages the crucial fundraising these guys need to keep going! So big pat on the back to everyone who came out to help spread the word tonight!
With the promise of a hills and drills session to complete the evening, I did nearly put EVERYONE off tonight's task but 10 hardy runners still turned up to show their mettle! We were joined by lots of lovely regulars and the flyer/hill combination didn't deter Shan from joining us for his second GoodGym outting!
With marked up maps in hand we split into two groups to cover ground quickly and get the task in hand done. Simon and Ronan know these mean streets well so they were designated team captains and off we went into the night with a deadline to get back in time for a hills session to finish.
It didn't take long until we had offloaded all the flyers and met back at the bottom of the dreaded West Walk, a well known haunt for the hill lovers of Ealing! We had 6 reps to complete with a drill to do at the bottom between each one. The aim was to push on the way up, recover on the way down and then push again for the exercise in between, a real toughie but a great session for building strength, speed and endurance!
Now as I'm nice, I didn't get them to do the entire length of West Walk but Michael decided he wanted a challenge on the last rep and went the full way up. Major kudos! We finished with everyone's favourite way to spend a minute, planking! I think there were some pretty shaky arms and legs when we were done!
Well done to everyone who came tonight and hopefully see you all next time!
