SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Linda Sharman
Maybe it was the Sunday Morning feeling but today's session at the SHP allotment got off to a slow start. Chris SHP volunteer and what we like to call an Honourary GoodGym Member was introduced to James and Jay and we had a little wander round introducing ourselves to any changes that nature had made since we were last there.
Introductions over there was a discussion about what needed doing. Linda was keen to use pots to fill the big raised planter as it would take a lot of earth to fill, James came up with the idea of using the stuff from the bulky compost to half fill it so three of us got on with that while Chris (allotment waterer extraordinaire) watered the fruit trees and beds.
James was keen to do another task so he and Jay started breaking up the broken greenhouse into smaller pieces for easier removal from the site. Meanwhile Linda procured some top soil from an unused part of the allotment to cover the rough compost in the planter.
At this point Chris left to honour another appointment...well we were only booked in for an hour but James and Jay had found the task of dismantling the green house curiously engaging to the point where they were willing to continue for 90 minutes of extra time, leaving a nice tidy pile of small bits for later collection.
We are not saying anything about the tiny rosemary cutting that left the site with one of us 🙈
No furry friend sightings this time so we had to settle for a couple of snails. I would like to say no snails got hurt during this session but it was an accident, what goes on at allotment sessions stays at allotment sessions and...well...those who know know 🥲
This is a London-wide charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. They do this by providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change.

Great write up Linda! Thank you for arranging. There is more wildlife on that plot than you can shake a stick at! ;)
