Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kim
Jan, race directing, made it all look like a well-oiled machine as he quickly organised a small army of volunteers to take up their roles, whether marshalling, timekeeping, setting up, token distribution – or many of the other tasks needed to get the show on the road.
There was a fantastic turnout of 32 runners and good sprinkle of accompanying adults too. After celebrating achievements, having a briefing and then a warm up they were off. Flying along the flat path as a warm up for the first hill. There were some impressive little legs motoring up that hill and they just kept going. Some parents were dropped!
As marshal number 3 they only passed me once so I was able to clear up the cones round my station after whooping through the tail walker and head through to the finish funnel to cheer the first lappers and then finishers before standing by as a barcode scanner.
The great atmosphere and general friendliness and welcome was reflected in the probably the most colourful and fun finishing funnel I have seen. It certainly gave our runners a lift as a hearty group cheered them over the line. Lots achieving some impressive PB’s.
Before I knew it the whole thing was done and disbanded to rest for another week. Well done runners, well done volunteers.
