Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
Sarah and Deb went on a Sunday mission to assist with some cut backs.
Miss M, who was very impressed with our ‘on the dot’ time keeping, met us to explain the problem with a couple of bushy bushes encroaching on the pathway and making access difficult.
It sounded like a straightforward task so Sarah armed herself with a pair of short handled loppers and Deb chose a pair of shears and set to, happily lopping back the first shrub. We chatted to Miss M as we worked and within twenty minutes, part one of the mission was complete and a tidy up of that area was in motion. Miss M helped us bag-up the clippings for disposal and was delighted with the improvement we’d made in such a short time frame.
We were then handed over to Miss M’s neighbour, Mrs R, who owned a unruly Golden Cypress Shrub that was taking ownership of the walkway. Mrs R wanted a bit of height reduction and a short back and sides for the congestion causing Cypress. It was a simple enough job but we were mindful not to cut back too hard leaving behind ugly twigs and bald patches that might not recover. It deserved a sympathetic snipping so to speak and our host was pleased with the end results.
Mrs R stayed with us while we were busy on the task. She explained how her husband used to keep the shrubbery tidy but he’s sadly now disabled so no longer able to tend to these tasks. She was smitten with the GoodGym concept and very grateful for our help.
After a tidy up of the deadwood and a quick sweep of the path, our job was complete.
Sarah and Deb had enjoyed an hour of upper body workout and left two happy clients. We may not be at the front of cutting hedge technology but I think a pleasing result was achieved.
