Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
On a surprisingly mild Sunday morning, an awesome group of Goodgymers marshalled at Aspire race Kelston 10k and changed lives forever...
What did they think of their marshalling experience?? Let's find out...
“On Sunday I got in a car and I had some crisps and a gold bar. I cheered some people who looked unhappy with hills and I met Frank. The sheep talked to me and the views were cool. I want to go back.” Richard G
"I propped open the gate lock with a tissue so that runners didn't have to fiddle with the lock to get through. The runners were grateful. I love marshaling because it means I'm not the one running!" Shreena
"I was on one of the steepest parts of the downhill. It was so steep that several runners thought it was as hard as the uphill. And some thought it was even harder!" Alex
"the only way is up" - as Yazz put it. I enjoyed motivating runners - all fiercesome but some unsure with the path which lay ahead - up the last hill, pointing to the top and saying it's flat on the other side - although having never seen the top ourselves we were going on hearsay🤣- runners appreciated our enthusiasm(cheers and claps) as well as our motivational speaker ('chicken') I appreciated the Meatloaf sound backdrop at times but preferred the countryside silence, views and bleeting sheep." Laura
"To be Frank our runners weren’t pug-nacious in fact they were super friendly" Dave
"Whilst waiting in anticipation for the first "angry" runners to come trudging up the hill towards me I admired the beautiful countryside views. As the runners approached they were not at all angry (no golfers here) but in fact smiling and some even laughing. Although I had to be "Frank" when they asked if they were near the top of the hill...and say nooo..not at all... although the views from the top will be worth it!" Lexi
"While waiting for runners to beat the massive hill I was watching a farmer on a quad bike being followed by sheep. Once the runners came to me, they were so relieved to finally go down the hill that they nearly hit the gate. They didn’t know about Dave’s steps yet (evil laugh)." Zdeni
"What better way to spend a Sunday morning, than to be a hand-clapping, tea-sipping hi-viz human signpost!
So many polite runners shouted “thanks Marshall!” which was lovely and I didn’t have the heart to tell them my name’s not Marshall; I opted instead to apologise in advance for not being able to prop open (with snotty tissue technique) the fiddly lock on the gate they were about to run into..." Fi
"What goes up must come down, apparently much faster and smilier. And very relieved." Mel
"I saw some creepy sculptures before the race but the race itself wasn't scary, it was lots of fun making the runners smile by telling them they were nearly at the top!" Clo
"I don’t have a cowbell, but I have a rubber chicken!" Alison
Everyone seemed to enjoy the morning, helping the runners achieve their goal today through lots of cheering, clapping and words of encouragement. The runners definitely appreciated it. Great job guys!
