All About The Girls
Following a highly successful seafront flower bed planting day yesterday ( check out the photo ) a similar group met up at Worthing Leisure Centre this evening with one notable difference. Tonight it was a female only group !
After a quick chat about the GG W'orthing's whats app group ,crazy GG people doing half marathons in both near and far away places and other important tittle tattle we set off on tonights adventure to help our friends at Breathing Spaces with their community allotment in May Close, Goring.
This was our first visit to this secret garden and we wasted no time in our 1.6 km steady warm up run straight over the bridge and along the Strand to reach the tucked away venue.
She's All Matt
We were met by Claire and Lisa who had quite a surprise in store for us.
Maybe the boys had a tip off that this evening was going to be the most physically challenging one yet and so all stayed away in fear the girls would show them up or do we think it was pure coincidence?!
Whichever way you look at it the SAS ( sassy and sexy) girl team set to the task of moving a huge pile of fitness safety matting that had been donated by Worthing Homes from one area of the garden to another for safe storage until they can be used to lay a path through the allotment.
As I'm used to lifting weights ( and more recently a pretty heavy suitcase! ) I can vouch for the fact that each mat must have weighted ( In excess of - just like my suitcase) around 20 kg and, there were lots of them to move .
G-Gym Carrey
Total respect to Belinda and Barbara who swapped burpees for strength and endurance this evening. With pure guts and determination the 3 of us with a helping hand from Lisa managed to shift the entire stack in around 15 minutes. Belinda has the bruises to prove it!
Hardly pausing for breath after this epic feat we then set about digging out brambles followed by shearing and raking overgrown grass to prepare the ground for some planting.
Say Aloe To My Little Friend
It was a complete delight to be joined by Tamsin and her mini me ,Jemmie, who came armed with her own set of tiny garden tools eager to pitch in and help. Endearingly Lisa and Claire magicked up from nowhere some little plants and a kneeler for Jemmie to use and suddenly a little flower garden appeared plus a 'snake' that could have been mistaken for a worm by such a cute toddler :)
She's Got Nettle
With her little girl occupied Tamsin pitched in with some firece destruction of a preserved large nettle plant ( Ssssshh- nobody saw!) It was so good to see you back and I'm looking forward to seeing you in your trainers next week... and maybe a red t shirt ..... :)
Girl Power
After some photos , fond farewells and a promise to return 3 of us set off for a scenic 3 k run around Goring before returning to the Leisure Centre.
Wow, on reflection, what an evening that was ! It certainly had my endorphins bouncing off the ceiling. Looking forward to next week already when I will also be covering Brighton GG on Tuesday. Who's up for a double ?!
Love your work - Love your fitness!
Much GG Love
