24 runners ran 4k to help a Somer Town institution Plot Ten

What a lovely way to spend a Wednesday evening. We run 1k 'hard', helped an incredible project in one of the most deprived areas in the borough, got creative with paint in an adventure playground, and welcomed 3 new people into the bosom of GoodGym Camden.

Here's this week's summary in numbers;

42

...is the number of years youth group Plot Ten has been in existence. Built on a former bomb site by the local community to provide a place for local children to play, it provides after school and breakfast clubs and holiday play activities for local children. They play a really important role for local families and many generations of children have been supported by the project.

3

  • the number of tasks we helped with. One team where charged with painting the wooden fences surrounding the playground, one group headed into the sensory garden to trim back and weed the raised beds in the dark and 2 lucky individuals were handed strimmers and told to get on with the task of clearing nettles from the perimeter.

45

....was the number of minutes we had to complete the task. We worked pretty solidly- Chris and Will had fun with the strimmers and lawnmower, Michelle got stuck into (almost literally) chopping back the lavender, and Kirsten pulled out a sack full of nettles by hand. After 45 mins the walls were painted, most of the weeds were yanked out of the ground, and the lawn was looking much neater.

1005

...is rough estimate of the number of confused onlookers at Granary Square who watched 24 runners warming up between the fountains. We managed to stay dry and prepare ourselves for a new GG Camden Run challenge....the magic Kilometre!

2

...was the total distance we ran along the canal. The first kilometre of running was purely reconnaissance- we mapped a 1km course, running the route we would later tackle backwards to check for any obstacles or difficult corners. We then turned around and tried to run back as fast as we could! We staggered the start with those who didn't feel like a lung busting effort heading out first, with the speed demons following 2mins later in an attempt to run us down. It was hard but fun- we'll do it again in a couple of months and map our improvement.

Great work everyone.
